thinking spring

Untitled, oil on wood
 available here

Spring is just around the corner.  Wow, it feels really good to say that.   Here's a link to a blog post by a fellow Esty seller, Farrielle, that definitely captures the feel for spring.  Some people just know how to put it all together...me, I'm still trying to find my way out of the cave I've been buried in.

little bits...

I've been working on  a variety of projects the past few weeks so I thought I would give you a taste of whats been cooking.  Each photo is a small section of the actual paintings, leaving something for the imagination.

The top photo is a portrait commission, in oil, in progress.  A nice contrast to the other work going on in the studio.

The following three paintings are landscapes, in progress, for a show that opens at the begining April.   They are a bit moody but not so dark feeling as they appear above.

At the same time, I have been trying to post new work in my Etsy shops so they are not totally toast.
I could go on but I think I'll go make soup instead.

A Great Pyramid

In my son's social studies class they are learning about ancient Egypt.
Last week they spent their class outside working on building a to scale version of one of the Great Pyramids...in snow.  so cool!

days of wine and amaryllis

In the midst of preparing for two shows next week (more on that soon), helping the kids get the house into proper Christmas spirit, and trying to stay on top of the day to day I decided to have another go at a daily amaryllis study.  I did this a couple of years ago, on 18" x 24" paper and vine charcoal, and loved recording the daily transformation.  This time I'm doing smaller studies in pencil, approx 9" x 12", and hope to add color at some point.   Also hoping to update my Etsy shops over the next few day as they have been sadly neglected...

Speaking of Etsy, if you are looking for some fresh gift ideas there are plenty of them.  And the handmade kind which I happen to think are the best.  Check in later for a post I am putting together with some of my favorites.
Today being Friday I can't let it go unmentioned the FineArtFriday treasuries that are being put together by the members of Finding Fine Art team.   They are awesome!  I had this piece selected to be part of this treasury.  Thanks Robin of robinsart!
